Honduras Happenings (Feb - Apr 2021)

Occasionally Chris will send me pictures of what he's been up to.  It's always nice to get a glimpse into what his day to day looks like.

It could be that goats have eaten through the internet wires, wreaking havoc.  Or that the power lines are down, wreaking havoc.  Or that roads are being washed away by flash flooding from major thunderstorm runoff, wreaking havoc.  Or that vehicles have caught on fire, wreaking havoc.  Or . . . you get the idea.  I think the worst ones though are not the natural disasters, but the havoc wreaked by people - not wanting to wear masks, wondering why they can't leave the camp during a pandemic, wondering why they need to follow rules, wondering why they need to do their job, etc. 🙄

So then I get pictures of Chris being a beast at the gym, trying to work out all the stress he's under from having to deal with everything (and everyone) wreaking havoc.  Man, all that stress sure makes him look great!! 😉😅

There's also awesome pictures of him participating in these crazy ruck marches where you ruck a bazillion miles in a gazillion degree heat.  That's one hot (& sweaty!) dude.

As Installation Commander, Chris also gets to officiate over a lot of stuff - presenting awards at ceremonies, giving speeches, etc.  Not his favorite, but he does it with a smile.

One awesome thing is that Chris does have a small servicemembers' group where he gets to partake of the sacrament and have a short Sunday school lesson each week.  They even were able to watch General Conference.

Sometimes Chris has to travel to Tegucigalpa to drop off/pick up people from the airport or meet with Honduran dignitaries/people from the American Embassy.  I love how every time he goes he sends me a picture of the temple.

These Tegu meetings are often very formal affairs where he has to wear his dress uniform.  Also, love that we got a shot with the Green Beret.  Chris has had to delicately navigate international treaties and try to make progress while being caught between a rock and a hard place - differing opinions and priorities! - many times.  He has pulled it off magnificently, despite the many challenges and frustrations.  I know this job has not been his favorite by far, but I am very proud of how he has conducted himself and held to his integrity and values with so much pressure from so many different directions.

And finally, sometimes I get pictures of beautiful rainbows and sunsets.  A small bit of peace at the end of a long day.
