Honduras can be Cool Sometimes (Sept-Oct 2020)

So, needless to say, 3 years apart was not what Chris and I planned for or wanted as part of our military journey.  And Chris has been a little out of his element, being the installation commander over Soto Cano Air Base and in charge of engineers, bus drivers, military police, cooks, MWR, etc, instead of over troops.  Not the place he would have picked or the job he would have picked.  However, Honduras is beautiful, and sometimes, sometimes, it  can even be kinda cool.

Sometimes you get to go on training exercises with the troops, surveying the beautiful landscape out of the back of a helicopter, then jumping from said helicopter into the ocean.

Sometimes, when you're driving to official meetings to meet with a bunch of dignitaries, you get to see the Latter Day Saint Tegucigalpa Temple out your window.

Sometimes you get to do the Fireman Warrior Challenge, flipping tires, dragging hoses and mannequins, and generally just proving how tough you are.

Sometimes you get to practice your spanish, by meeting with Honduran Officials.

Sometimes you get to be a part of a POW run to remember those who have been captured.

Sometimes you get to oversee the building of airports and runways (making your civil engineering wife super jealous. 😉)

Sometimes you get to go rucking for miles, or cruise in a helicopter through canyons, and just enjoy the beautiful scenery that is Honduras.

Sometimes major storms roll in, keeping the beautiful mountains lush and green . . . and creating beautiful sunsets.

And finally, sometimes (almost every day) there are beautiful rainbows, reminding you that sometimes storms are worth it, for the rewards and beauty they bring.
